The protagonists of Krum’s play are stuck in a mysterious impotence. They are drowned in existential stagnation. They are in a kind of clinch because their ideas about a better life do not come from the heart. I was inspired by a world that we no longer have access to. This is a world of prosperity and relative comfort that was familiar and easily accessible to us. It ceases to exist in front of our eyes. The set design is a representation of the idea that the world as we know it is passing away. The chandelier (which is a replica of an original 19th century chandelier placed in the audience) is a sign of beauty, prosperity, this supreme cultural construct that ceases to exist. We are experiencing times when the well-known is going away…
We were strongly inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead and the idea of the bardo, the rite of passage from life to death. In order to reflect the atmosphere of the book about how the soul behaves after death, going towards the light, I designed on stage a pool filled with water and a musical and light instrument built of bell pipes
