The form of the work was inspired by my fascination with various structures manifested in the natural environment especially in landscapes. I was inspired by solidified landscape structures and their sharp and rich shapes, which have been formed for thousands of years. Uplifts, undulations, faults and cascades create a certain type of a rhythm of crusted earth which attests to strong primeval tectonic movements that shape the nature. The landscape, which is frozen in form and time, brings to mind strong emotional agitations.
The sculpture floor (set design) symbolizes the landscape after a battle, and a crusted print of former passions of the unharnessed element (the war). Nothing can survive on this infertile earth- Shakespeare’s play portrays as many as seven suicides of the main characters. Finding a balance between the set, costumes and the light design as well as developing the idea of a moderate and monochromatic world of colours and emblems formed the main visual concept (of this work of art).
The sculpture consists of about 1000 layers of striped fabrics (a carpet) which are arranged in a rhythmic structure. While working on this piece I came up with an original method of solidified surface. The shape is trapezium (size: 10m deep x 6-7,5m length) and bottom platform is raised (from 0-1m). (The size of pool is: 7,5m x 1,5 m).
